Perhaps my first voice-over experience was on stage pretending to be someone other than myself. I was involved in theatre productions all through high school, college, and in the English speaking theatre group in Mexico City. My first "paying" job was also in Mexico, where I made my living as an actress and model for television commercials (although my voice was usually dubbed in by someone in the voice-over union). When I moved back to the United States, I got involved in radio, where I gathered and delivered the news and recorded local commercials.
I eventually made my way into television news where I spent more than 15 years as a reporter and anchor in markets from Texas, to Maine, to Florida. During that time, I was also talent for various radio, television, and video presentations including commercials, projects for non-profit organizations, and corporate video presentations.
After leaving the television news industry (burn-out!), I became the Creative Director of a private production company for nearly 10 years. Mine was the voice on many of the corporate videos, public television segments, and commercials we produced.
I continue to freelance in the industry whenever a project that interests me presents itself.
I am college educated, have taken singing lessons, and most importantly, have LIVE on-air experience in radio and television, and experience with LIVE stage productions. I am extremely comfortable with a microphone since I've used one to communicate with hundreds of thousands of people in my career as a journalist.
I take direction very well and am a quick learner.
My own studio equipment includes a Mackie mixer, Logic Pro audio, AKG microphone, various keyboards and sound modules.
In my former role as a television journalist, I often met people on the worst days of their lives. I also had occasion to meet them on the best days of their lives. My experience in a variety of situations and circumstances is extremely broad.
As an actress in stage and television, I am capable of stepping in and out of the shoes of a wide range of "characters".
In my most current role as a freelance producer and voice talent, and in the past five years as a licensed massage therapist (!), I'm constantly working with people - whether I'm facilitating a workshop on empowerment, leading dozens of people in drumming and chanting, or helping someone to recover from a frozen shoulder.
I believe this exposure to such a wide spectrum of human emotions and conditions allows me to understand many perspectives and portray them through the use of my voice.
