Looking for a summer job in college, I applied at a local television station that was housed in a mansion used for the Underground Railroad. With a fascination for all things historic, I interviewed (and delighted in seeing the mansion from the inside) and was asked to provide trial copy for several commercials. With a drawer full of speech awards and experience at the national level representing our state, I believed I had something to offer. I wasn't hired, but I heard my copy a few weeks later when I was watching television. I was 18. What did I know? I went on to write copy for student productions advertising campus variety shows and plays. I researched, wrote, selected talent and produced public five to seven service announcements (15, 30 second spots) highlighting the history of local women for Women's History Month for five years. I appeared as a talking head for Purdue University's Center for Women & Returning Adults, served as the spokesperson on area television and radio for university programs. A trained actor with two degrees in theatre, I have directed & acted in educational, community and university theatre projects/plays for years.
