Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects
Wacky children's characters, British english speakers, Irish, French, and Indian (from India) accent imitations, mostly variations on American english. I speak eine bission deutsch and my German reading skills aren't terrible mostly because I live with a German native who can give me lots of constructive help!
My Voice Experience
I read lots and lots of books including all the Harry Potter books aloud to my kids - and developed consistent characterizations throughout.
I am currently recording a series of instructional educational software videos with voice instructions for Apte, Inc. in Evanston, IL, an educational software company which develops its own unique software both for school systems and the retail market.
I've been the sole proprietor of my company, Judaic Art Studio, which requires me to give many presentations in order to obtain work. I've been successfully using these skills for 25 years.
A good friend who is a NPR and WBEZ radio doc contributer finds my voice to be well suited for voice overs and has encouraged me to try this sort of work. She and her husband have a studio at home where they mix pieces for broadcast on a regular basis. I would have access to that equipment and expertise though I have a simple recording set-up of my own as well.
My Training
I have a BFA in fine art from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
I have sung actively in choirs since high school in the 1970's. My singing voice is a pure sounding alto.
I took a class with Brian Thon of Such a Voice in November, 2009. He encouraged me to pursue this line of work based on his initial assessment of my voice.
I am a good writer and a very expressive reader.
I am open to continuing to train with a voice coach and am just looking at the options that are out there.
My Studio Equipment
I use the M-Audio microtrack 2 recorder and Adobe Soundbooth. I work in the depths of my closet, allowing myself to buy as many new items of clothing needed to create just the right sound :o)!
Additional Skills
I am confident, able to take constructive criticism well, flexible and a hard worker.
In running my own company for the past 25 years, I know how much rides on presentation when obtaining work or selling a concept. I also work well with my clients, listening carefully to what they want visualized and coming up with ways to make that work.
I do my best to sell the product for which I am hired with enthusiasm, hard work, patience and attention to the details of doing a job professionally and to high standards.
I expect a lot of myself, you won't have to impose that on me.
I am a visual artist, so I can see and think outside the box. I'm a realistic working artist as well, who understands the impressions one makes and the goal of getting a job done well and in a timely manner. I am reliable and creative and have made a living working for myself for 25 years.
I feel that I have much to offer to a client who finds my voice a good fit for their project.
I'm excited about starting something new in my middle age and hope to find lots of opportunities to dive right in!
