My Voice Experience

After working over 20 years in a variety of production and communication roles in the broadcast industry, Laurie now operates her own small business providing voice-over services.

Highlights of her public speaking experiences include: event hosting, fashion show commentating, staff and community presentations, training, hosting a community cable television series, and narrating at community events. In addition, as an active member of Toastmasters International, she delivers speeches and presentations and has been recognized as an Advanced Communicator Bronze and a Competent Leader.

Some highlights of her work in the broadcast industry include: working with teams to create and coordinate a wide variety of communications projects and strategies in support of CBC TV, Radio and New Media; providing quality results for clients with very limited budgets and resources; hiring and training well over 15 employees; managing 13 communications staff in Canada’s prairie provinces; accompanying the Vice-President of CBC TV on a Saskatchewan visit; leading regional staff during a labour disruption; coordinating station promotions and sweeps advertising campaigns; producing commercials, psa’s, promos and corporate videos.

Laurie has taken the 'VoiceOver Workout' skill development workshop with Deb Munro (2008) and the ‘Spoken Voice’ class on voice development from Prairie Theatre Exchange with Nancy Drake (2004). She continues to develop her public speaking skills as an active member of Toastmasters International.

Additional Skills

Laurie's career in the broadcast industry started with volunteer work at the local cable station in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada where she was soon hired as a production coordinator for community programming. Over the years, Laurie took on many other roles including production coordinator for SRTV in Saskatoon (now Cinépost Films), where her voice talents were first recognized and recorded for television commercials; promotions coordinator and writer/producer of commercials and corporate videos at STV in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada (now Global TV); and senior television communications officer and regional communications manager at CBC in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Laurie has well developed communications skills with many years of experience in promo production; public relations and community outreach; publicity; internal communications; corporate communications; advertising and marketing; stakeholder relations; sponsorship; special event planning; and writing (news releases, bios, ad copy, promo copy, event plans, outlines, communications plans, briefing notes, and correspondence).

She also spends her leisure time pursuing dance, sewing, decorating, wine tasting, gardening, reading self-improvement books, fishing, travel and golf.
