Most of my voice-over work has been to produce hypnotherapy CDs. Some track are introductory instruction and background, others are the hypnosis session itself using a slow, measured, soothing tone.
I have done radio announcements (PSA's) and answering machine messages for local TV and radio.
Most recently I have done commercials, which I particularly enjoy for the characters it allows me.
I have been a business writer and journalist while maintaining my hypnotherapy practice. Business copy has been everything from radio and print ad copy to articles in state-wide business journals. This is an area I no longer work in, preferring performance opportunities.
Radio hosts and cable TV producers often ask for me to return again and again because I have an understanding of the pace and rhythm of recorded voice and the interview context. I can easily fill in when there is a sudden absence of a co-host, as well, when they need me.
I also do stand-up comedy and comedy hypnosis shows, using my own staging and production.
Frankly, I'm a ham who has learned 'on the job.'
I am available in Vermont and northern New York for in-studio recording at your site, or can go to any designated studio or to my local musicians' recording studio, as required.
My experience has been primarily in hypnotherapy (I am currently in private practice) and in college teaching (adjunct courses in writing and hypnosis).
In both contexts one has to have measured delivery and tone of voice is critical, depending on the results sought from clients or students. Nuance is especially important in hypnosis, as the message goes directly to the subconscious, bypassing the critical faculty of the consciousness.
I am also a regular emcee in my area, doing some stand-up comedy work at local stages and for fund-raising events. I was Vice President of the Middlebury Festival on the Green for a few years, which required me to be the emcee for our shows (as no one else wanted to be that public). I have a knack for improvisation in these contexts.
