My Voice Experience

New to voice over. Storyteller for over 20 years. MC at storytelling events also.

My storytelling is passionate, I immerse myself into my stories regardless if it is a seemingly simple story for children, a folktale, or a mythic story told for adults. I love offbeat stories such as those in Politically Correct Fairy Tales or Don't Bet on the Prince as well as a wide range of standard tales and myths.

I enjoy finding the tempo of a story and seeing how the voice can lead the story or draw the listener in. Finding how the voice can add so much more than just words to the story. Adding audience participation in many of my stories brings another element of surprise and enjoyment to the stories, for both the audience and myself.

My Training

Primarily as a storyteller. Have attended several workshops with nationally known storytelling talents. Have presented with other storytellers in multiple person presentations where dialogue is shared throughout the story. Have performed on live radio broadcasts and appeared on cable tv.

My Studio Equipment

Just beginning. I have a Tascam DP-02 and I have a good condenser mic. I can record multiple tracks into a mixed and mastered CD.

Additional Skills

Workshop presenter in Beginning Storytelling and have presented as a teller and workshop leader at Boston Public Library; Stories By The Sea Storytelling Festival in Newport, Or.; Word of Mouth Festival by Waldorf School in Portland, Or. and for the Portland Storytelling Guild. These experiences have helped me develop my ability to bring fresh ideas to each story, to look for vocal inflections or timing that will bring the story to life.

I have presented HR material for employee training within Leatherman Tool Group, and done various training sessions for Directors Furniture and Oliver & Thompson - all in the Portland area. Have many years of warehouse supervision and training experience also have lead training in safety related topics. This has helped me develop the ability to present corporate training material effectively.

In May 2011 I won 2nd Place in the Seattle Folklife Festival's renowned 'Liar's Contest'. A contest that is won by delivering a story with false content in a compelling way to draw the audience in so they enjoy the ride.
