Voice Description

My voice is deep and forceful and (I'm told) compelling. Here's a little story that might best illustrate this:

Years ago, when I was a college student in Lynchburg, Virginia, I once called my boss at the local airport where I worked, and on the spur of the moment decided to pull a practical joke on him.

I identified myself as "Jerry Falwell" and told him I needed to lease a Lear jet on short notice. "Yessir, Dr. Falwell, " he said. "We can fix you right up!"

Completely fooled, he proceeded to quote me on the cost of the lease. I quickly identified myself but too late to keep from getting into big time trouble for that little prank!

If you've ever heard Dr. Falwell speak, this will give you an idea of the texture and range of my voice, though I can be quite flexible.

My Voice Experience

I have done voiceovers for beauty pageants requiring high energy and have acted in a number of local stage productions, including The Living Cross (www.thelivingcross.com), playing a number of roles requiring a variety of voice inflections. I have also done various readings, monologues, narrations, etc. requiring both serious and lighthearted voicing to fit the character and mood.

My Training

No formal training, other than speech classes and a radio class I took in college (many years ago). I had a couple semesters of voice lessons (singing) as well.

Additional Skills

I am 62 years old. For years folks have told me I have a great voice. I'm often asked if I'm a radio announcer. Many have commented that if they "had my voice" they could make money with it. Recently a gentleman who has been doing voiceover for 20+ years said he could really hear me doing children's books. That's a new one!

Even my wife of 41 years says it was my "voice" that first attracted her to me. (I don't know if that's a good thing or not.)

So, after hearing it once again during our church's Easter production, I decided to put my voice out there and see what happens. I am an 'unknown' which could be a plus.

I am also a singer (gospel) and have performed on stage and in churches throughout my lifetime. I've also in times past done studio work as a backup singer. These days I sing bass in the church choir and baritone in a quartet.

I am open to any voiceover job, if the 'fit' is right.

I am semi-retired, though I do some marketing/advertising consultancy work for my daughter's internet business. I also do some website development and copywriting.
