Voice Description
Producers have called my voice intelligent, warm and real, friendly, professional, womanly, strong, smooth and "authoritative without being over-bearing".
I've done medical, technical and business presentations successfully.
Audio books are particularly interesting to me because I can use my narrative skills as well as my acting ability. At this writing, I am narrating "People of the Bear Mother" for TD Austin. The book has sold over 5,000 copies on Amazon by word of mouth alone. The audio book is a delight to do. I look forward to my next audio book project. :)
Documentaries also fascinate me and my interest seems to show in my voice, adding comprehension for the viewer.
I was awarded an Emmy for voicing 19 episodes out of 27 on the PBS production, "Cycles of Life: Exploring Biology". Though Narrators usually don't qualify for an Emmy, I was considered the audio Host and was given the peer review honor.
I love doing character voices for Animation. I've written several children's books and one will have a CD included soon.

My Voice Experience
After many years of doing national commercials (Toyota, L'Ermitage Hotels, Del Monte, Gallo, Best Western, & S&W Coffee,California Lottery, etc.) I was honored in 1992 to be one of the first Narrators in VO history to be given an EMMY. It was "peer reviewed" by industry members, something for which I am especially proud.
This award was given for my Narraton of 19 segments for PBS's KOCE production "Cycles of Life: Exploring Biology". The project is still being aired on America's PBS stations. Friends have told me they've seen the series and heard me in England and Italy.
I've just finished narrating "Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome", a tutorial for Nurses about the deadly results of neglecting to diagnose and treat a common condition resulting from the use of psychotropic drugs. The documentary is also being viewed by medical students.
I worked in the LA market for my entire career, earning a living during my last 15 years. I was with Vanessa Gilbert for most of those years and moved with her to the Tisherman Agency in Burbank where she is now one of the primary partners.
Coming to the Palm Springs area and building a professional home recording studio has allowed me to do VO work "long distance".This and forming "Joshua Tree Audio Books", an audio book production company, has allowed me to continue successfully in this shape-shifting industry.
Early on, "The VoiceCaster" founder and owner, Bob Lloyd, was my first VO agent after he discovered me when I was a commercial Actor in the late '70's at the Ann Wright Agency where he as an Agent. I continue to
My Training
Doing voice work and being an actor, singer, journalist, photographer, performer and video producer for Time/Warner Desert Cities here in the Palm Springs area for many years is how I learned what I do and how to do it. I did, however, through the years, do Animation and VO workshops and many a brush up seminar saw me front row being a VO geek. :)
I've found that I take particular pleasure in working with a Director who knows exactly what he or she wants.I love "hitting the mark"and my narration work with PBS has earned me accolades (she said humbly...lol!)
Please feel free to contact me by phone or email about your project. You will still need to deal with Voice123 on the booking, but we'll be able to communicate and see if I am someone you'd like to work with. 760 366 1263... KatePorter@aol.com... www.JoshuaTreeAudioBooks.com
I look forward to talking and possibly working with you.
My Studio Equipment
I am currently using my MacBook Pro and a Shure SM7B mic supported by a Duet interface. I have DSL and FTP capabilities. I can fully produce a spot from copy to tracks with voice, sound effects and music. I send Mp3's as well.
If needed to do so, I can go anywhere in So.Cal for recording, but do have studios here in my area we can use.
Additional Skills
I'm a published Writer and write copy and produce radio and TV commercials. I love producing PSA's, especially if I am behind the cause.
I was a professional Singer for many years and I am an ASCAP songwriter and a member of TAXI.
I've recently been writing, hosting and producing for Time Warner Cable here in the Coachella Valley. I air on a "real" channel, not Public Access. Industry people, Authors and lots of "back in the day" celebs dot our population landscape. It's fun knowing some of America's luminaries are watching my work and even more fun when they let me know it. :)
I conceived and produced "AnimalChat" for 5 years, a weekly half hour TV show "celebrating animals and the people who love them". I followed that with 4 years of "Time Warner Cares", where I profiled the local charities and their services. I loved doing both, especially since I could write, host and narrate my own scripts.
I enjoy being a team player and love helping to develop a project. I look forward to working with the best of you! Together, we can make magic. :)
