My Voice Experience
As a speaker at youth events, I sometimes notice students on the verge of distraction. (No matter how interesting my topic is, it's hard to compete with a vibrating cell phone!) It's fun to catch them off guard by switching to an unexpected accent, re-focusing their attention.
Emceeing conferences has given me experience in quickly grabbing the audience's attention and setting the tone for the upcoming speakers.
My Training
I graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Speech Pathology, where I studied dialects and speech imperfections.
I've raised seven, yes, seven, children! Each one of them speaks a different language, if you know what I mean. I taught each of them in our home for a total of 14 years. Over the course of time I had to get very creative in how I kept school interesting for them, so I would take on different personalities and different accents for different subjects or seasons.
I used accents appropriate to the subject matter and often forgot to switch back to my natural voice at the end of the school day, which made interesting gossip for the neighborhood!
As a guest speaker at a High School, I once gave the first 10 minutes of a lecture with a French accent and abruptly abandoned it after the introduction, mischievously watching dozens of mouths drop open when they realized I wasn't French!
My Studio Equipment
I have easy access to a recording studio.
Additional Skills
I understand voice inflection and phrasing from my research in speech pathology.
I have experience in drama and as an Emcee for Unhindered Events
I have several vocally talented children still living at home, who could join me in carrying a layered message.
