Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects
Accents: Irish, English(upper class British) and Lower class with a bit of cockney, Australian( generic) good enough to fool teenagers who then what to know where I am really from. Also French, Swedish/Scdanavian, Yiddish, Russian, New York, Queens or Brooklyn,Southern US, a cross between Texas and the deep South, good for angry characters, sexy characters and intially dumb with a twist of intelligence. Italian ( Mafia type). I also can do an Irish leprchaun, a Royal commanding British Queen,a delightful Southern Belle, a haughty or arrogant woman. I am also good at small voices like children or mice or small animals like cats or insects like spiders. Whining neurotic and complaining in New York Brooklyn, Yiddish/Jewish mother Southern and regular Californian. Also very good at Melodrama and the irate dissatisfied customer and a very bossy wife or woman. And very animated and a bit didatic when discussing politics.
I also speak, read and write French semifluently and speak and read some Spanish.
My Voice Experience
I played the part of an English Nanny about age 40 in a audio musical called FLOWERS FOR BETH. I also sang as well. the musical came out in 2010 andis now sold as a DVD audio at Borders and on Amazon. Other voice-over work was done when auditioning scripts for various commericlas, answering machine messages, audo books etc. for jobs list on another voice over website. Most recetly I have beeninvolved in two audio book project , THE COMING, where I had 5 charcter parts with different accents and PALINDROME playing a young woman and a female Chief of Detectives. Other acting experience includes writing my own short one-act palys and performing staged readings of them at FIRSTSTAGE for their Playwright's Express Fundraisers. I also have performed as a singer and actress in various stage shows,open mics and at various retirement homes and assisted living facilities. and as a substitue teacher I have used several types of voices to gain students' attention for various academic activities and to keep students quiet.
My Training
I have a B.A. from UC Berkeley with a major in Social Science and a minor in French. I have a Masters degree in Education with an emphasis in Special Education and I have threelifetime teaching credential and I have taught almost every subject in grades k-12 as well as Current Events, Historical Events, Music Apprciation and Memory Enhancement to older adutls And I have taught basic academic skills to both normal and disabled adult and music appreciation to dsiabled adults and children. I have taken several classes in music including songwriting, theory and sightsinging. And I studied singing on and off for about 15 years. I have taken classes in creative writing at UCLA Extension and have written both fiction and non-fiction including articles, one-liners, satires,bumper sticker and button slogans as well as plays and wrote and produced and acted in one full length musical. I have taken on on-camera acting class, a regular acting class and voice-over classes at a studio in Burbank,CA.
My Studio Equipment
Audacity on my laptop computer with a usb microphone and an external hard drive. My roommate has Protools for Mac and a more extensive home studio that I have access to as well. And he is very good at sound editing as well.
Additional Skills
I am highly verbal and have taught people ages 5 to 103. I also have helped out with political campaigns making phone calls etc. I am very persistent and will stick with a project until it is finished and I do not like to do things last minute, so try to prepare ahead whenever I possible. I feel I am a reliable, dependable, responsible and an intelligent person. And when I was a teacher I often was over-prepared. I have good people skills and I am very well- traveled traveled halfway round the world by myself. I am a bit of a workaholic and multitasker which I believe comes form being a teacher and an overachiever in both high school and college. I am very good at research at librairies and on the internet and have good knowledge of medicine and various aspects of the law. And if I need information I either get it from a book or an organization or government agency. as a substitue teacher I often had to improvise lessons when the regular teacher's lesson plans weren't working in a class.
