My name is Joyce Tarpley and I am an African American woman on a mission: To create for myself a professionally and personally rewarding career as a narrator. To this end, I present the following qualifications:

Narrated two video presentations for the Geriatric Mental Health Foundation Conference/ Campaign to raise awareness of depression among the elderly. Presentations produced by: Equals 3 Communications.


Recorded individualized voice quotations as part of an audio book on New Orleans in the aftermath of Katrina. Produced by: Legacy Audio Books

Currently working on audio book for a client in the medical profession.


Voiceover commercial for presentation of the Regina Taylor musical, Crowns, at the Academy of Fine Arts in Lynchburg, Virginia. Produced by: ABC-13 – a local affiliate of ABC Television.

Trained for four years with John Burr of the John Burr Production Studios in Bethesda, Maryland; Completed acting courses in Improvisation and Scene Presentation with the Round House Theatre.

Additional Skills

In January of 2005, I published my first book, a collection of sayings, witicisms, and observations called "Life By Aphorism." Among other things, along the way I learned the value of discipline, hard work, and drive. Combine those attributes with (I modestly believe) a great voice, excellently trained, and I think my voiceover/narration skills would be a tremendous asset to a variety projects, though I confess to a soft spot for documentary narration. Humor. One of the two things without which I couldn't get through a day.
