My Voice Experience
At Charleston Southern University [2000-2004], while studying public speaking and communication courses, Ive had the opportunity to develop my voice to meet the challenges of different characters. For example, in Acting 321, I had to play the role of a loving boyfriend where my voice would be calm and collective when speaking to my family or my girlfriend. However, when one of my best friends turned his back on me, I became enraged and my voice changed to being strong, furious, deep, and aggressive. Simultaneously, I had to switch my voice back to the loving son and lover, to being furious and enraged. Exhibiting this rage allowed the audience to become immersed in my pain and fury where they could feel the intensity of my inner feelings.
Playing the role for this character spawned new opportunities for me. My professors, Delores Jones and Christine Walker, would say that Im a natural talent for using my voice. I participated in more challenging roles that needed the flexibility of voice usage while being commitment to that character.
I also studied Criminal Justice at Charleston So. Univ., and in this area I was able to use my voice articulately for announcements, reports, speaking on judicial reviews, and a variety of presentations. Whether it was Criminal Justice or Communications classes, I became the selection from most of my peers and classmates to take the top role in reading aloud, presenting materials, or best acting/voice positions.
My Training
At Charleston Southern University from 2000-2004, I participated in many classes where I learned to vary my voice usage. Classes such as Mass Media, Interpretive Reading and Speaking, Phonetics, Linguistics, Radio Broadcasting, Acting, Public Speaking, Theatre, Music and Theatre Workshops (2 years) all tailored and enhance my professionalism for becoming a voice over.
My major was Criminal Justice and I minored in Communications. Yet, I devoted hours beyond the schools requirement for satisfaction of my Communication degree. I participated in school production plays, classroom activities, and theater performances.
In addition, I took communication courses at other college institutions [Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College 2001-2003] to broaden the scope of using my voice during summer months to contribute to my studies at Charleston So. Univ.

Additional Skills
I was born and raised (23yrs.) in South Carolina and can exemplify a southern accent. Moreover, my dialect is not strong and can often be related to other parts of the USA. At times, Ive varied my voice and some would think that my voice is influenced by ancestral cultures in SC such as the Gullahs. Yet, theres no definite culture or environment my voice belongs since its clear, strong, and professional.
At Charleston Southern University, I was the announcer at some soccer and volleyball games, and most intramural sports weve had on campus, such as baseball, softball, and football.
Finally, I have developed the ability to use my voice while breathing in. This has given me the ability to sound like an old lady and/or a computer generated voice.
