Voice Description

Joseph's voice is very young, friendly and warm for commericals. When performing a monologue Joseph's voice is described as edgy and gritty, particularly whilst using a London accent. For narrations his voice is very colourful and playful especially when using an accent other than his own. Joseph is also able to adapt a strong R.P accent for use of presentations or Shakespearean projects.

Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects

Joseph was born in Bournemouth so this is his nattive accent. However after living in London for 4 years he is able to use the Cockney accent with ease. Joseph has a good ear for accents and can pick up any, however the strongest in his repertoire are: Standard American. Southern American, Scotish, Northern Ireland, Ireland, Australian, Geordie, Liverpool, Devonshire, European, South African and French.

Joseph is also able to alter his voice to make a character sound younger or older, he has played men as old as 70 and as young as 10. It is fair to say that 'Voice' is his strongest tool as an Actor.

My Voice Experience

Joseph has produced a voice reel for Marina Calderone the writer of 'Actions: The Actors Thesaurus. His most recent voice over work was for The Crow Theatre Company. Joseph used his voice to produce various characters for their most recent production.

Whilst at Rose Bruford Joseph took classes in Radio and Voice Over work an is therefore fully trainned for this type of work.

My Training

Joseph trained for three years at Rose Bruford College and has a BA Honours in Acting. Since leaving drama school Joseph has worked at the National Theatre and has been on tour with The Clockhouse Theatre Company performing Merchant Of Venice. Joseph has attended numerous workshops over the past year in connection with voice over work and has learnt in particular how the voice is connected with the body and how important it is to be free with the body whilst doing voice over work.

Whilst at the National they expressed just how important it is to use the voice muscles and to be vigorous with voice warm ups and since being there I realise how important it is to find time to continue training your voice.

My Studio Equipment

Joseph does not own any equipment for recording purposes however is able to get access to a studio if it is required.

Additional Skills

Joseph is passionate about voice over work and will accept any work simply for the love of doing it. Voice over work is the same as any acting work as it is about expressing yourselve and being creative. Joseph is not frightened of trying out new things and is very impulsive when performing voice over work. Joseph feels that his strongest points as a voice over artist are his good ear for accents and his characterizations.
