My Voice Experience
Although I really began working in voice over in 2002, in 2004 I began a different full time career that required I make a choice between it and voice over. At that time I had to step back from what I loved to support my family. I had really just begun getting voice work and joined AFTRA. When I realized it would be awhile before I could perform again, I quit the union. Now, in 2009, I am finally beginning again and hope to be doing voice work for a long time. One of my favorite jobs was working with the Pacific Garden Mission, doing live audience readings for a radio program they call "unshackled". I have done print work, plays, industrial films, and directed plays, but voice over is my passion.
My Training
My college degree is a BA in Business Administration, from Augustana college. In the late 1990's I tried my hand at stage acting with a local theatre group. I was bitten by the acting bug and in 2001 I began taking classes in "acting", "voice-over", "on-camera" , and "ear-prompting". During that time I became a director of an acting group at a church, where I also acted, did voice work, as well as ear-prompting for many monologues. Most recently, I have been working with a voice-over coach.
My Studio Equipment
I do not have a complete home studio yet, although, I am currently submitting auditions to an Agent through a sound program called "Sound Studio" on my iMac. I record, edit and send, via e-mail my auditions in an MP3 format. ( I have other formats available as well). And, I use a "Blue" brand "Snowball" Microphone.
Additional Skills
I have had a varied career. I have been a steel salesman, a branch manager, a clinical massage therapist in a chronic pain center, owned my own business, and more. In many of these I have given speeches, hired and trained employees, and given professional presentations. I have been a director and an actor. All of these things have made me better and more confident in "voice-over", and other acting work.
