My Voice Experience
"Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, welcome to the Hall of Records and Untapped Potential! In this corridor you will notice a collection of exhibits entitled Dreams Realized. It is a tribute to the work of John Scott from his early childhood into the first decade of the twentieth century. You will notice the little rectangular boxes with slots and a thin strip of plastic at the front of the first display. Believe it or not, that's what he used to do his first recordings for such works as musical numbers for the 100th Nite Show 'Some Things Never Change' at West Point's Eisenhower Hall Theater while he was a cadet there. In the next case to your right you will notice a collection of shiny, round plastic discs with writing on them. Back in the late twentieth century, computers actually had moving parts and played these discs containing data and other storable media. On the discs you see before you are the collections of legal file work John did for a court case. He added background music so that the court officers would know that the spoken information being presented had not been altered. Fascinating! Now in the last case you will see what looks like a giant video camera. Yes, that's what they used way back then to record investigations taking place out in the field. The segment of footage playing on the screen is what John recorded to document the investigation of why concrete bridge decks were falling apart out in the middle of the desert in San Bernardino while he was a bridge maintenance engineer for the California Department of Transportation. There were alot of other recordings made of his voice, but the film industry has control of the rights to some of them. We know that he called cadence while acting as a military officer in a movie called 'Affliction' and rendered some unexpectedly colorful dialogue during the filming of a television show called 'Raising The Bar' which we believe might have been edited out although the production staff loved it. Anyway, the remainder of the collection is not yet open for public viewing. It contains all the latest voiceover work he did in his early forties for commercials and films. That exhibit will open soon in the new wing of the Hall of Untapped Potential. Thank you for visiting. Please come again!"
