Bass baritone with a smooth, professional edge. Positive, mature, confident, friendly. A very traditional sounding voice with warmth and personality with highly trustworthy qualities. Ideal for financial services, banking, insurance commercials.

My voice is very suitable for spoof BBC news broadcasts with a genuine British (Home Counties) accent - an accent that can be tailored to either modern British usage and delivery or a more traditional style more reminiscent of the 1930s (commonly referred to as RP or Received Pronunciation.)

Also, Cockney (East End) 'happy chappy' and other English regional accents including Glaswegian (Scottish), Yorkshire, etc.

I am very adept at adjusting the pace of delivery to fit commercial length and the post production facility offered includes 'tightening up' - removal of tiny fragments of dead air to give a very punchy and honed delivery, including tailoring the speech to fit around music/effects.

My Studio Equipment

Our studio is equipped with Triton FETHEAD phantom powered FET preamps for use with the ribbon mics. This gives +20dB gain and a very clean signal which helps achieve excellent results from these low output devices. The FETHEADS also block phantom power from the ribbon mics although modern ribbon mics often have protective circuitry built-in.

Front end equipment is the Focusrite Voicemaster Pro single channel strip with expander, compressor, vintage harmonics (an emulation of the creative misuse of the Dolby noise reduction system by top recording engineers in the 1970s), tube harmonics emulation, de-esser and tailored vocal equalization.

Microphones include Electrovoice RE20 dynamic, Reslo ribbon, ART ribbon, AKG 4040 condenser, Shure KSM 27 condenser, various large ribbon mics.

Post production processing includes limiting, parametric EQ to tailor the presentation to the required medium, including 'telephone voice', etc., further compression and other effects as desired. Takes are recorded 'dry' to facilitate easy post-production editing. Post-production evaluation of material includes listening to it on various systems designed to emulate the conditions under which it will be heard by the target audience. This enables presence, etc., to be tailored to suit.

Four years' experience in a technical role with Living Sound. LS was a professional evangelistic Gospel group based out of Tulsa, OK from 1969 to about 1983.

My first career was as an electronics development engineer, trained by the Ministry of Defence (UK spelling) culminating in a period designing and type approving ships' radio transmitters (MF and MHF) by the British Home Office.
