Voice Description

I speak with a warm baritone voice, emphasizing enunciation and vocal variety (avoiding monotone). I can do dead pan humor so dry I may not be perceived to be joking, but I can also do stand-up style jokes.

Beyond humor, I do story-telling, narrations, the legal mumbo-jumbo in commercials, as well as the lead voice in skits and scenarios. I can age my voice to sound like a crotchety old man or lighten it up to sound like a deadbeat teenager, though my best work is in the Phil Hartman-style, straightman delivery.

Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects

In addition to North American English, I also speak Modern Standard Arabic with a good deal of proficiency. If need be, I can translate between the two languages for advertisements and messages in either. While I can tint my Arabic with Egyptian, Levantine (Syrian, Jordanian) and Iraqi, I do not speak with complete fluency in these dialects.

My Voice Experience

I have recorded for the Defense Language Institute of Monterey, CA, in both Arabic and English. This included instructions and vocabulary lists for the new Arabic Basic Course as well as directions for the unit tests given to hundreds of students each year. Additionally, I hold two degrees in Foreign Language (both in Arabic).

Outside of the recording booth, I have gained a lot of experience in Toastmasters International delivering speeches to audiences of various sizes. I have written and delivered political, socio-economic, humorous, inspirational, and persuasive speeches, though I have specialized in storytelling and salesmanship.

My Training

My training has all come from experience. I have been Master of Ceremonies (MC) at formal military balls, graduation ceremonies, and holiday celebrations and have delivered dozens of original speeches through Toastmasters International (winning several competitions for humorous or inspirational speeches). From 2006-2010 I was a language instructor and my voice quality directly impacted my efficacy as an educator. I have also delivered workshops helping speakers find their optimum speaking pitch and projection.

My Studio Equipment

I record, edit, and master tracks in my home studio with a Dell Inspiron 1764 and Sony Sound Forge Audio Studio software.

Additional Skills

I have a particularly good grasp of grammar, so I am well aware of my capabilities as a speaker. I can avoid most linguistic errors before I make them and am quick to correct myself in the recording booth so as to save time between takes. Selecting me for voice over work is a sure bet for quick, accurate, and efficient work!
