Voice Description

From trusted father-figure to frenetically urgent, from odd character to calming patience...my voice range is whatever the job calls for. I am an excellent reader of lengthy passages having a clear, midwestern diction. I can be a clear tenor to a smoky baritone and enjoy creating characters where called upon. I believe my voice is excellent for presentations and narrations.

Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects

Fargo-esque...don't ya know?, A little bit country...a little bit rock and roll!, (Not sure what that means!), I have toyed with the following accents, British, Cockney, Irish, India, Australian, German. Given a short prep time, I can come up with the accent of need.

My Voice Experience

Since the dawn of television, or late 1970 as in my case, my voice has been used in commercials, promos and public service announcements internatio...er...nationa...er...statewi...er, OK...locally...are you HAPPY NOW? Yeah. I offered my voice when there were no other radio announcers in the building! That's not to say I didn't do a nice job...it just wasn't my first career choice! I continued doing VO's of varying degrees of frequency for 20+ years, until the 90's. Ahhh, what a decade the 90's! Anyway, I was chosen to host a weekly television talk show and a daily radio talk show and voice a wider variety of commercials, promos and PSA's...and the occasional Sales presentation or documentary.

Now, I offer my talent skills, either as a model or spokesperson or VO talent, as needed. Within the past three months, I voiced an internet application for an educational company and because I auditioned with an odd little character voice, I did that one as well as the narrator! More recently, I voiced a frantic 911 caller. It was the first time the client used me because his regular guy was unavailable. On the first take, he and the producer laughed and laughed at how perfect the take was...and my interpretation. Ten minutes later, all the cuts were done with no more than three takes...just for safety.

VO work is fun. I just hope to do more.

My Training

I have a PHD from the SHK. (School of Hard Knocks). No, I've just gone out and done it. "I don't need no stinkin badges!" I was just around television production for 35+ years and have it in my blood. When I hired or promoted people for jobs directing shows, I just KNEW if they "had it" or didn't! I have to believe I just "have it" meaning the knack for the right inflection and tone to be successful at this.

My Studio Equipment

Oh. I'm not THAT knowledgeable about equipment. I have a consumer (Blu Snowball) microphone and record currently onto my Garage Band software.

I usually go into nearby studios when I get VO work.

Early in my television career I worked my way into running audio control, so I used to know how to set up a large system into a board and capably run a complicated production. (Football, Basketball, telethons, elections...lots of live productions.)

Additional Skills

Here's what you need to know about me. I am a pro. No, I'm not the most experienced or have all the studio equipment right in my home. I'm not there yet. But I was promoted throughout my career time and again in part because of my creative and technical ability, but also in no small part because I knew the value of my contribution to the client. Whether it was running a studio camera, audio or directing, I was THE person the client could rely on the give them exactly what they came in for.

I will deliver for you.
