My first success in the voice business occurred because I was intense and obnoxious. I was an intense and obnoxious young stage actor who looked on voice work as artistic compromise. It was for Heinekin. After having tried this wall to wall text for a half an hour, the director finally in frustration said 'John, will you puleeze relax!?" I said belligerently, 'Sure, I'll relax'. There was a couch in studio. I laid down, feet up and said 'Get a mic over here' thinking I'd blown it anyway. The nervous technician did so and read the copy as if it was garbage, threw down the script and started to walk out. 'See, I told you I couldn't do this stuff'. The producers were agog, and the director said 'that's it!. That's what I wanted'. For years from that time producers and directors said 'Do it like the Heinekin'. I reinvented myself every couple of years after that as other actors imitated my latest incarnations. Then I became the voice of Canada's History Television which I have been doing for thirteen years. Other successful contracts have come from Kelloggs (friendly enthusiastic uncle style, Volkswagon Passat (very understated sophisticated, and CIBC bank (warm couchy and receptive. I have also done narrations for biographies and sales pitches for aggressive style business meetings.
My experience is varied and my approach is 'Let's do 'til we get it right'.

I often work with a local studio in Toronto and my own engineer who also works with CanWestGlobal on History Television. I can also produce my own work to be sent on MP3 with Garageband and an Apex microphone. The mixing I leave to the professionals.
I have a long and lasting experience with Shakespeare, having performed his work on stage and television. Also I have done significant comedy and character work. I have been an actor, producer, director and writer on various projects so I have an appreciation for every facet of the work.
