My Voice Experience

I am just getting started in my voiceover career, but grew up thinking about doing some kind of announcing or broadcasting. To that end, I have a degree in broadcast journalism from the University of Kansas, where I worked in news and sports at KJHK, the student radio station from 1990-1993.

While I didn't pursue broadcasting professionally (there was more money in sales and marketing), my interest in voiceover work has continued. To be honest, I was never quite sure how to go about it until I found voice123.com.

Even though I don't have much in the way of recorded samples (other than those I've done at voice123.com), I've continually explored different speaking styles and characterizations and bizarre accents when making up stories for kids (my own and others).

My normal voice is a strong, fairly deep, "midwest" voice. I offer the ability to lighten it up to make it sound slightly younger. I can also do "cartoonish" voices if necessary.

While my academic focus was on delivering the facts in strong sense of humor and love making people laugh and use my speaking style to bring that out, whether it be through different voices, affectations or delivery styles.

My hope is that you won't assume a lack of experience means a lack of ability. All I ask is serious consideration of my auditions on their own merit.

My Training

Bachelor's of Science in Broadcast Journalism, University of Kansas, 1993

My Studio Equipment

Given the fact that I am just embarking in my voiceover career, I don't have any of my own studio equipment other than your basic PC recording software and microphone.

Fortunately, however, a good neighbor is the editor of Broadcast Engineering Radio magazine and I do plan to rely heavily on his insight and access to studio equipment.

I also have several friends in the radio business with access to professional studios as well.

Additional Skills

For the past 9 years, the job that pays the bills has been sales...primarily because of the money. What I love most about that job is meeting all kinds of people and figuring out presentation style is going to grab their attention. I absolutely love the presentation and public speaking side of selling.

I'm also a very strong writer and editor and feel I have a lot to offer to my clients should they need additional creative input for their scripts.
