Voice Description
My voice is youthful and warm although I could easily add fifty years to it or take 25 off. I have great range. Whether you require utter silliness or formal sincerity I can do it. I am a naturally fun person who smiles a lot and it comes through in my voices. I do my morning voice at 8pm at night. I do casual, sexy, and seductive tones. My voice is goofy when required and I offer variety in my reads. I am very good with impressions. So if you need President Obama to voice your project send me an invite. I'll do it in his place. Commercials, animations, promos, radio spot, trailers - whatever your voice-over needs I can help you achieve your goals. Thank you.
- Joe B

Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects
Accents:
IRISH:(youthful and senior)Average guys, sages, pirates, and the mailman.
BRITISH:(youthful and senior)Distinguished, commoners, goof-offs,Brixton, Londoners, old stuffy aristocratic women and men. I even do a pretty good Hitchcock.
AMERICAN: Various. I've been around. Minnesotan, Hoosier (native,) New Yorker (various ages but all male except for a disturbingly great Jean Stapleton) Mucho Southern accents: The hick, the redneck, the 3rd grade educated side-kick, the perfect southern gentlemen and as well as my mom and my aunt Lynn. I've got a few cowboy voices as well.
BULGARIAN: I can nail this one because I used to live there. I am told by many Bulgarian friends that I speak the language with "no accent." I can read it okay and I know enough Bulgarski to get myself into trouble.
RUSSIAN: Great stereotypical Russian guy.
JAMAICAN: Yeah, mon. Me got tree Jamaican accent. Call me now!!
INDIAN (from India):Yes again with the sage or you can have customer service.
IMPRESSIONS: Barrack Obama (yep,) Sir Ian McKellen, Alfred Hitchcock, Huell Howser, both Marlon Brando's, Bill Cosby, Dave Chappelle, Deputy Dog, Hagrid (Harry Potter Films,) Isaac Hayes, Jean Stapleton, Louis Armstrong, Nelson Mandela, Sean Connery, Terrance Howard, Isaac Hayes, Ving Rhames and I'm pretty good at voice-matching in general.
My Voice Experience
My father was a techie. I'm talking old school tube radios, boxy cameras and reel to reel recorders. I was two (you asked) and he put the microphone in front of me. After realizing that microphones don't taste very good my sister took it away. Her young beautiful voice took over as she sang, "Hold the pickles/hold the lettuce/special orders don't upset us/all we ask is that you let us serve it your way." I then uttered those all life-changing words, "I want the microphone." My sister then told my mother that I peed. True story. I last listened to that recording when I was about nine. Evidently I've never stopped talking. I was frequently told to "shut up." I declared at one holiday gathering that, "Someday they'll pay me to talk!!" The fools just laughed at me. We'll, I have been paid to talk, write, act and sing. Not bad, I'd say.
The next chapter began on my College's radio station. That's right, Ball State (David Letterman's alma mater) held me in it's bosom where I suckled on the milk of college radio doing goofy voices and skits for the Brian, Anjy and Christa show. After arriving in Los Angeles, I focused on being on camera to a limited success. For instance, you may have seen me mouth "peas and carrots" in any number of films or TV shows. Heck, if you are an avid viewer of "My Name is Earl" you have seen me shake my groove thang.
I have done voice-over work for a company that was seeking funding for diabetes research and I was the narrator on the documentary, "Skywalker: The David Thompson Story."
My Training
I have a marketing degree from Ball State where I got my first taste of radio. My education familiarized me with not only how to create marketing materials but the psychology behind the way ads are written.
I've gone to a S.A.G. seminar on voice-over. I have countless hours of on-stage experience performing in front of thousand of people. I've done improv. I've done stand-up comedy. I've written screen plays and poetry. I've spoken with several people who make their entire living doing voice-over. I've read Rodney Saulsberry's "You Can Bank on Your Voice." And yes, I've spent days in front of a microphone. I've spent years in front of computers. I even have composed music to be laid underneath voices.
My Studio Equipment
I have a Macbook Pro and a Powerbook G4. I have two external monitors as well as audio monitors with a separate subwoofer. I use a PreSonus Firebox coupled with my Studio Projects C3 microphone to get the audio into the computers and a pair of Sony headphones. I have a mic stand, tons of foam and my instrument, my voice. As far as software goes, I do all my recording in Final Cut Pro Studio 5. If necessary I use Soundtrack Pro for any sweetening. If one of my music compositions is required I use Garage Band in conjunction with Soundtrack Pro. The system provides remarkable flexibility.
Additional Skills
I have been educated in writing and filmmaking. I can write copy or modify a spot for a different audience all in studio. I don't need to get back to you tomorrow. Let's talk about the options and lay them down. Here is the commercial I wrote to appear on my new website:
Speed. Versatility. Range. In the past, these things have kept you from having an electric car. Now all of these qualities and more are here for you - in a person: JOE B. HALL.
Animation. Commercials. Trailers!! Whatever your voice-over needs, Joe B. Hall can assist you in accomplishing your voice-over goals. Yes, you demand results, so why not have them with style. Joe B. Hall, freedom of voice.
