My Voice Experience
I've done 'Cantonese' Chinese voiceovers for commercials, sponsorship vignettes, TV billboards, station bumpers, press kit EPK and more, for a national Chinese cable and satellite TV network in Los Angeles. I've also been a voice coach for such advertisers as AT&T, Pacific Bell, Foxwood Casino, and others. Beyond actual experiences, I'm always aware of my natural gift with my voice and have always used it to my advantage in appropriate situations. Many years ago when I was 18 and still in school in Hong Kong, I participated in a major "flight hostess" recruitment event presented by TWA, then a very prominant airline brand worldwide. The competition was fierce. I went through two early-round eliminations (from a pool of over 450 candidates to about 45) and then found myself in the third round, in an open interview/audition in a hotel conference room, before a panel of airline judges, not to mention the rest of the 44 competing candidates. In order to make myself stand out and be on top-of-mind among the judges, I decided on the spot that I wanted to showcase something with my voice. I gave a short impromptu, light-hearted speech after my question/answer session, and then I SANG (it was a short little tune in English which was relevant to my speech); and I knew I did it well. The judges and the rest of the 44 candidates in the room were shocked but were genuinely delighted by my surprised and unrehearsed performance. I made it to the final round of 20 but failed to secure a winning spot (TWA selected a total of 4 winning candidates). I have a lot of other similar interesting stories showcasing my voice but this particular one was one of my favorites.
My Training
Born and raised in Hong Kong, I came to the U.S. to further my studies and to work. I have a Master of Arts degree in Communications Arts & Sciences at USC. I've been passionate about music (singing) and doing anything using my voice since I was very young. I've done school plays and have participated and won numerous singing competitions growing up in Hong Kong. I'm able to sing (and sing it very well) just about any type of songs -- English/American hits, Mandarin standards and regional folk songs, and even Cantonese opera...a rare feat for any professional or amateur singers.
My Studio Equipment
I have easy access to a voiceover production studio in my area.
Additional Skills
During the two years when I worked at a national Chinese cable and satellite TV network, I've helped advertising clients with Chinese copy writing and English/Chinese translation. I'm also familiar with TV production and editing.
