My Training
I'm currently completing coursework from the Columbia School of Broadcasting.
When I was in college, I worked on the radio stations. One was a closed loop broadcasting into the student union, and the other was a 10 watt station broadcasting to the neighborhood surrounding the university.
Both shows were middle of the road, but I also did commercials, PSAs, and produced the news and weather from the news wires.
My Studio Equipment
PC Using Audacity
Additional Skills
I was born in Chicago and have fond memories of listening to the likes of WLS's Larry Lujack and Brant Miller, WGN greats like Wally Phillips, Bob Collins, Roy Leonard, and Carl Greyson, and commercial powerhouses Dick Orkin and Christine Coyle.
But for nearly 30 years I've been working in the IT industry. While I'm very good at what I do, it's not my passion.
At the end of my last college radio show, I announced that I was changing my major from communications to computer science. I had to give up my shows. After I signed off, I got a phone call from someone who had been listening to my show all year. She mentioned that she really liked it and was sorry that I had to go.
I enjoyed my radio work, but had to decide between (at that time) a certain or uncertain future. Well, IT was secure for a long time, but its not all that secure now.
Call it a "mid-life crisis" or something else; my passion is entertaining. After years of working in a profession where my creativity was taken for granted, I'm now looking for something where it can be appreciated.
I'm embarking on this new phase in my life, and I'm looking forward to my "big break". I've also joined a local improv comedy group, The Argon Ship. So far its a great ride.
