Voice Description
My voice is low in timbre - warm, yet authoritative. It is ideal for both presentations and narrations. I also specialise in comic characterisations, which are often used in commercials. I am adept at both hard and soft 'sell' in advertising but a natural, straight read is my strongest skill. I would describe my voice as friendly and trustworthy.

Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects
Accents and dialects are my strong point:
Irish dialects, obviously - Dublin (both middle-class and inner-city), Cork/Kerry, Belfast, Donegal, Tipperary;
A number of English dialects - RP, Cockney, Northern England (Liverpool, Yorkshire, Newcastle), Suffolk;
Scottish;
Welsh;
American - Standard Eastern Seaboard, New York, general Southern dialect;
Australian;
French;
German;
While I am good at impersonations, I am not an impressionist. Characterisations are more my specialty and I can do any number of them.
My Voice Experience
Voiceovers and audio book recordings have been a part of my career as an actor since the beginning. Luckily, in Ireland, there is very little type-casting - the country is too small for that! - and we move pretty easily between theatre, television, film, radio drama, voiceovers and other interesting jobs, such as clowning, street theatre and theatre-in-education.
I did my first voiceover about seventeen years ago and decided I liked being in studio - must have something to do with the womb-like atmosphere! Athough my career took me in other directions, I always return to studio work. I've done a pretty wide range of commercials, from baby wipes to battered wives' shelters.
Over the past year, I have worked with the National Council for the Blind Ireland, recording audio books - most recently, a collection of short stories, called Stories of Irish Childhood and a Maeve Binchy novel - Whitethorn Woods.
My Training
I have a BA degree from Trinity College Dublin. I subsequently trained as an actor at the Gaiety School of Acting Dublin, during which time, I received some training in voiceover and radio skills. I have been a professional actor on stage, screen and radio for many years.
My Studio Equipment
I don't have my own studio but I have easy access to a few of them. The best of these, would be the studio run by the National Council of the Blind Ireland. While I don't pretend to be terribly knowledgeable about the intricacies of audio engineering, I do know that the NCBI has a fully equipped professional studio. Apart from their own work recording books for the blind (all copies of which, are held in the Library of Congress) but they also lease it out for commercial purposes.
Now that I am embarking on the Brave New World of online audio submissions, no doubt, my knowledge will increase dramatically!
