Voice Description

The key to a great voice is the character behind it. I am the character under the voice over.

The key to a great voice is the character behind it. I am the character under the voice over.

My natural speaking voice is a warm baritone, so I can easily do that classic Disneyland-esque announcer voice if that's what you're looking for.

But I am not just another generic baritone. I utilize a wide range in pitch, tone, timbre, rhythm, and mouth work to do a variety of voices, accents, and sounds (take a listen to my cartoon demo).

Patrick Fraley has said, "Your demo shows a very impressive range... you have the goods."

I can give you a deep warm sound, a high squeaky sound, and most anything in between.

I am an excellent whistler and can also do a wide variety of sound effects and animal sounds. I have even dabbled in Tuvan throat singing (aka, khoomei, overtone singing).

My Voice Experience

I have been speaking since I was about 9 months old. I speak every day.

Seriously, though, I was the Registration PA Announcer for the 2007 Orange County Race for the Cure (Sept. 2007).

I did voice-over and copy editing for the Snaidero USA Dealers' Conference introductory video, 2005. I had to take lines poorly translated from Italian to English and make them intelligible. I also did video production for the same video.

As a substitute teacher, my job includes a great deal of speaking and reading in front of children and teens, so I understand the youth audience. They are a tough group and will eat you alive if you are boring, so being able to captivate them is a big plus.

My Training

Pat Fraley's Cartoon Voice! Event (2/10/07). I got to work with Fraley and cartoon director Ginny McSwain at this workshop.

Junior High and High School Drama classes and productions. I won several awards for outstanding acting as a school boy.

I took multiple linguistics classes as part of my Anthropology BA, so I understand the physiology and psychology of language. I also have a BA in history, so I am not afraid of academic material.

I played trumpet and french horn in junior high and high school band, orchestra and jazz band, and was the drum major for the marching band. So I understand rhythm, pitch, phrasing and musicality.

My wife is in public relations/marketing, so I have some insight into the marketing end of the business, as well. This can definitely help when it comes to understanding and interpretting copy.

My Studio Equipment

I have a Mac running Garage Band, Audacity, and Amadeus Pro.
Samson Q1U (dynamic) and Samson CO1U (condenser) Microphones.

Additional Skills

I am an excellent whistler.

I can do many animal and other sound effects including: elephant, dogs, cat, sheep/goat, cow, chicken, monkey, various growls, splats, motor boat/plane, Jetsons car, baby crying, champagne bottle opening, overtone singing (kind of sounds like a digeridoo).

I also specialize in Muppet/cartoon style voices like Kermit the Frog, Shaggy and Scooby, Cookie Monster, Grover, Mickey Mouse, Elmo, and many more (listen to my cartoon demo).
