Voice Description

My voice has a very broad range: generally it is clear and sound and projecting. I can range from a meek whisper to loud resonant yelling, and my voice can go very deep to the point where I can sound like a very old worn man to a very high-pitch tone of a baby voice of a 5-year-old or an annoying voice of a highschool ditz.

I can do many genres of voices. For example, warm and deep for narrations; sexy and fun for commercials, prank phone calls, or the occasional femme fatal; smooth and professional for presentations or business or emergency related atmospheres;loud, twangy, and piercing for those respective nagging granny roles or social outcasts; light and nonchalant for those mysteriously ungarrulous, cool characters; vibrant and bright and inviting for those cartoon/animation female protagonists; animated and strange-sounding for unusual creature-like or animal-like characters; various accents from different parts of the US like the South, New York, Boston, Chicago, Texas; or even accents of foreigners from Canada, England, Scotland, China, Japan, France, and Italy.

Although English is my native language, I speak Chinese and Italian fluently; Spanish and Japanese nearly fluently; and some French and Portuguese. In Chinese I speak mainly three dialects: Mandarin, Cantonese, and Shanghainese. In Italian I can produce 7 out of 13 regional accents (Bolognese, Emilio-Romagnolo, Veneto, Toscano, Romano, Napolitano, Pugliese, and Leccese), and I know three dialects (Veneto, Napoletano, and Leccese) other than Standard Italian.

I do a very good impression of Samwise Gamgee (Lord of the Rings), Gollum/Smiegul (LOTR) in English and Italian, Stitch (Lilo and Stitch), Dr. Evil (Austin Powers), and Shakira.

My Voice Experience

I have acted in high school and at college at the University of California at Los Angeles as an extra-curricular. At UCLA I performed in various plays with the UCLA Reading and Shakespeare group playing roles such as Cleopatra in Antony and Cleopatra, Puck in a Midsummer Night's Dream, and Desdemona in Othello.

Other than that, people have always told me that I have an amazing voice for a cartoon or animation voice-over, since it is bright, resonant, has a lot of character with its various range.

My Training

Graduating in June, 2006, I am an Italian Literature and Linguistics major with a minor in Spanish focuses on special cross-linguistic relationships among all romance languages. I have taken upper division phonetics classes about the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) as well as English phonetics and phonemes and Spanish phonetics and phonemes. These were all taken in the department of Linguistics at UCLA (which is ranked number two in the nation).

I have also done research this past year on the entire inventory of regional variations with respect to the Standard Italian language, and various dialects that have developed in Italy with Professor Fabio Foresti of Sociolinguistics at the University of Bologna, in Italy, studying various phoneme inventories, recording them, transcribing them, and reproducing them.

I have also taken a speech training class for the Standard Italian Language at the University of Bologna in the Faculty of Drama, Art, Music, and Performances for actors, radio hosts, voice-overs, and speech therapy.

Additional Skills

I have played guitar, piano, bass, violin, and trombone; therefore, I am very familiar with reading music as well as having a very trained ear in recognizing beats, rhythms, harmonies, notes, and tones. I love to sing, I sang in my church choir for four years.
