Voice Description

My voice is pleasant, and I have very good, clear diction. I can do British and New York accents well. I can also do a voice that is similar to the Looney Tunes character Marvin the Martian. I am a trained singer. I am very good at light lyric singing, but I also have a very strong middle to lower register that is good for jazz. I am good at singing opera, jazz, Broadway show music, and I can sing very much like some of the characters in the Disney princess movies. For example, the song "Out of the Sea" which is sung by Ariel in "The Little Mermaid" fits very well in my voice. I can also do an impersonation that sounds like a muppet voice - something like the character Kate Monster in the Broadway show "Avenue Q." Depending on the type of recording, I can make my voice sound sexy and sultry or light and fun. I can also sound very professional. It all depends on what is needed for aparticular recording.

My Voice Experience

My voice should be my livelihood. There's a song in the Broadway show "Avenue Q" that asks the question, "What do you do with a B.A. in English?" The question I keep asking myself is, "What do I do with a B.S. in Music?" I have always thought of my voice as my personal pot of gold - or at least my potential pot of gold. I'm a great singer, a good actress, and I have a very clear speaking voice. One of my dreams is to be a studio artist who does voice overs for professional television and radio ads and animated films. I would also love to record albums of jazz standards and Broadway classics, if ever given the opportunity. This kind of work would be a dream come true for me.

Thus far, most of my experience has involved singing and acting on stage. I have done one studio recording for a personal demo, which I enjoyed immensely. That recording was used as an audition to sing on a Christian televisio show. In college, I played the leads in two opera productions ("Amahl and the Night Visitors" as the Mother and "G&S's "Trial By Jury" in which I played the role of Angelina), and I played the supporting role of Kate in the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta, "Pirates of Penzance." I have also had the opportunity to sing with several bands and orchestras, performing everything from oratorio to opera to jazz. These have included solo performances in Handel's Messiah (soprano), a performance of various opera chorus material, a solo jazz performance of several Gerswin tunes with orchestra accompaniment, and a solo/trio performace of several jazz standards with a jazz orchestra - just to name a few.

My speaking voice is clear and precise, and I am confident that - given the opportunity - I would be beneficial to any voice over recording project.

My Training

Currently, I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in vocal Music from Southern Adventist University in Collegedale, Tennessee (graduated in 2002). My studies there included diction training and stage movement training as well as public speaking courses and communication skills courses. I have also been continuing work on my Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance at the University of North Texas. My studies are currently on hold while I finish my Secondary teacher certification. My acting experience mainly involves college productions, but I have always been very interested in acting and being on stage. I am also told that I am well-spoken and that my words are always easily understood while singing.
