J.D. Blakley

Trucker Craggy, soft and moody, comedic, off-color

Voice Description

My voice is a bit on the craggy side but I soften it up if needed. I have been told I sound like a Trucker (I was one for 5 years), I used to teach a neighbor to read and did a lot of story reading for them, I could read the story "in character" when needed or just as the narrator.
What I found most fun was vocalizing the characters in the books and seeing their reactions to it.

I can be comedic in an "off-the-cuff" variation of the craggy, crude way or soft and deep for effect.

My voice has been described as a barrel-chested bass, throaty and crass or just warm and sexy, depending on whom you might ask to describe me.

Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects

I lived in Oklahoma for a time and I can do the Southern Drawl 'respectively', I also lived in California and can do the 'skater/surfer' accent, The 'skater' accent might be used also as a slow talking 'hippie' type of persona, the cragginess of my regular voice could be used as a 'Biker' influence.

My Voice Experience

I have done voice-over work for a current on-line game where my voice is used to tell other on-line players that their game event is about to start and also special events that happen while playing the game.

I have access to all of my voice-over mp3 recordings for this game and can provide them if you are interested.

The developers of this game and I are currently working on a vocal tutorial for the many aspects of the game and we should have a full complement of on-line vocal tutorials within 6 months time. They will be available on the site for new players to listen to and watch. They will be video productions where I describe aspects of game-play for both PC and Macintosh use while playing the game.

While involved with this game we have produced a number of podcasts that can be accessed and downloaded from the site. From the main page of the site, click on "Game Info" then on "podcasts" in the media section to either stream the content or download it at your convenience.

My Studio Equipment

I use "Garageband" to record all of my content. I have found this to be the easiest to use for my home based applications. After finalization with the client, I will export it to another music program where I will use an equalizer to 'finish' the composition before converting it to an mp3 profile for easy transfer via e-mail or other transfer protocol.

I use a Logitech headset in all productions.

Additional Skills

I am willing to utilize the Voice123 vocal coaches if need be.
