Voice Description
My voice is unusual, for America. I speak good English (schooling) and my home language is Afrikaans, which I also speak well. I can do a few typically "South African" accents - for instance, the main character in "No 1 Ladies Detective Agency" comes naturally to me. A 'redneck' Afrikaner accent, educated black person of any SA language. A child voice. A 'plummy' British accent.

My Voice Experience
I have been amusing and delighting small children for 30 years by reading to them. Spent around 20 years in the advertising industry in South Africa, beginning with JWT Johannesburg in the early '70's, and ending with Paton Tupper Associates - a below the line agency - as a copywriter/translator. Wrote, read and translated 20 childrens stories for READ in Johannesburg, including one story for SABC TV around 1992/93. Have been invited for the past three years to narrate the Nativity Play for our local Community Church. I understand sound, the importance of clear diction combined with personality, character, whatever is required.
My Training
I have no formal training. My sojourn in the advertising industry made me very aware of the importance of 'getting it right', of knowing how to address your audience. Public speaking holds no fear for me. Language, good language, is one of my passions.

Additional Skills
I can write, edit, proofread and instinctively know what sounds "right". I critique TV advertising for fun. Most of it is appalling in this part of the world! (Modoc County, California)
