My Voice Experience
My portfolio is still being built as I am new to this business, but I have done some cool things in my life using my voice over skills. Take a read:
Once when I was in college, my class group had to come up with a creative way to show how to get involved in campus activities. So I came up with this crazy idea to write a script for a guy hearing voices as a young lady is trying to help him get the information he needs. I recorded the "voices" part of the script, and the actor conversed with it! The class loved it and we got an "A."
Another story... A buddy of mine knew that I had a good voice for announcing because he'd heard me kidding around a lot. So he decided, because the basketball team he was coaching had advanced to the play-offs, to boost their morale by doing a "roster reading" during the pep rally like the Chicago Bulls or something. I was a bit embarassed, and I would hide below the booth walls so that no one could see me. I put on my best announcer voice as I called out each of the the players' names, and as I peered through the door opening, I could see them running down the aisle with pride. They won the championship game that year.
As a side note, I don't think they won again after that year...
My Training
I was a music major at Xavier University in New Orleans for two years before I decided to get married and have children. I was heavily involved in the choir and opera departments, and played lead roles in two opera productions. One requirement for being a voice major was a diction class, where I was taught to speak foreign languages with the correct accent and pronunciation.
I have also taken part in a few recording projects of differing musical styles.
My Studio Equipment
My studio equipment is quite basic, but it includes an Alesis mixer hooked in to a 64processor computer and a SHUR SM57 microphone that really gets the job done. I have used it to do voice overs for a church's teaching series and it came out quite well.
