My Voice Experience
I am currently writing and producing news stories for KPFK (90.7 FM, Pacifica Radio) in Los Angeles, California. I started working there in July 2009 and now air about 3 news stories per week that are broadcast on the "Evening News" (6-7 pm, Mon. - Fri.).
I am responsible for everything that goes into the production of the feature. Pacifica's editorial staff provides the story idea, and I take care of all of the details from there. I research and write the story, contact the newsmakers and/or subject matter experts to interview them for commentary, edit the interviews for sound bytes, record the news story, and return the finished product in mp3 format to the editorial team for broadcast.
I typically get a story idea at about 1 p.m. and have a news story ready to broadcast by 6 p.m.
My Training
My Studio Equipment
At KPFK, I have access to several fully-equipped recording studios and use Cool Edit Pro 2.0 to put my news features into mp3 format.
Additional Skills
I have a very broad educational background and a wide range of interests. As a student, I did quite a bit of academic research and writing which enables me to learn a lot about a subject quickly in a practical way. As a musician, I am accustomed to performing in public.
I have done a lot of public speaking and look forward to opportunities to address audiences. I also enjoy studying ancient languages and can navigate several.
