My Voice Experience

Voice acting has been my full-time career for since 1998, after leaving a 25-year career as a television director and audio producer, during which I worked with VO talent on a daily basis. My voiceover work includes radio commercials, television commercials, message-on-hold, industrial narration, audio drama, animation, and more. I've worked with - and learned from - some of the top VO talent in the country as a director and production engineer, and I've received 11 Emmys for my work in television, plus numerous other awards. I've had my own home studio for as long as I can remember (going back to the mid 1960's), and I've worked as music editor for a number of top award-winning ice skaters and ballroom dance professionals. I run my own full-service production company, The Commercial Clinic, and I'm one-half of "The Voiceover Team" of James Alburger & Penny Abshire. Penny and I are also the executive producers of the VoiceOver International Creative Experience (VOICE), the only conference in the world dedicated to raising the performing and business standards for voiceover talent.

My Training

I am the author of "The Art of Voice Acting" so you might say that I wrote the book on voiceover! My primary performance training comes as the result of being a part-time professional magician and performance coach for more than 30 years, along with directing voice talent for more than 27 years in recording studios and television before opening my own production company.
