Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects
My natural accent is general American that can morph into a slight country twang. However, I am a native New Yorker who can evoke the confrontational and clipped tones of the Big Apple.
I also have played several oddball characters on computer games for children. Imagine a human clock, dog, cat, plus other animate creatures and inanimate objects that find voice.
My Voice Experience
I began doing voice work on the telephone recording on demand news, weather and sports just prior to the Internet explosion. After that, I had my own recorded radio show focusing on economic opportunities and development. Using that experience as a springboard, I did narrations for industrial and educational videos, as well as commercials, computer games and voice acting in dramatic presentations.
I also read for SunSounds, a radio service for the blind.
My Training
I was an amateur actor in grammar school, high school and after college, in community theater.
I have taken commercial acting courses, as well.
One interesting aside - a number of years ago, I entered an amateur voice over contest conducted by Phoenix radio station KFYI. The contest went on for several weeks, and in the end, I won second prize. !!! Second.
Subsequently I learned from one of the judges that I only got second because they thought I had been lying about being an amateur.
Gee, thanks a lot.
My Studio Equipment
Yamaha Audiogram 3; Sennheiser E 835 microphone; Wave Pad Sound Editor, six Logitech speakers including a woofer, and an HP laptop with three gigs of RAM.
Additional Skills
Professionally, I am a writer. I earned a very nice, steady living for years doing technical communication for large corporations, and also did voice overs for them.
I am politically active, understand technical and mechanical issues, and once upon a time, recruited teenagers for Junior Achievement by writing radio commercials and conducting public assemblies at which I spoke to hordes of acne endowed young people to convince them to become young, budding corporate leaders.
I regularly broke all previous records.
