My Voice Experience

This story is not about me, as funny as it may seem. It's about a boy I knew when I was growing up.

His name was Jackie Lundell, Jackie was the sweetest boy that I ever knew.

You see when I was 10 years old my father died. About a year later, my mother started dating another man. A few months later he moved into our house. Now that might not sound like a big deal,because that kind of thing happens all the time. But when I was growing up that kind of thing didn't happen.When a man and woman lived together, they had to be married.

I was a fat kid to begin with. So I took alot of teasing in school anyway, but when my mother started living in sin. That's what they called it back then, living in sin. I became an outcast. No one was allowed to play with me. My life was miserable.

But there was this boy in my class Jackie Lundell. He was very popular, very athletic, one the greatest Little League baseball players I've ever seen. I was walking home from school crying, from the teasing and Jackie walked up to me and he said. "Hey Jack come on over to my house we will have a good time." I ran to my house and asked my mom. "Hey! Mom is it okay if I go over to Jackie's house and?"Mom said sure, go ahead and go. You don't know how much that meant to a 10-year-old boy who didn't have a friend. I went to Jackie's house, most every day that school year and that summer. I lost weight and learned what it was to have a true friend Jackie helped me to build my self-confidence and to heal my broken heart. My mother and that man ended up getting married, and he turned out to be the greatest dad a boy could have

Jackie and I both went to Vietnam in the same year. About 1968. I returned home, but Jackie did not. You will find Jackie's name carved on the wall on the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, DC. God bless you Jackie, I will always love you. You are my friend. You are my hero.
