My Voice Experience
I am a radio AND tv girl!
I was a reporter and anchor for CNN for 15 years (I am still a freelancer there) so I definitely can be the "serious informative anchor or reporter type". Because of this serious news experience, I was tapped to do VO's on training tapes for the CDC. There is nothing like talking about serious diseases - pronouncing them correctly and sounding authoritative- all while trying not to wig out learning about all the new communicable disease out there.
While doing television, a local DJ in Atlanta called because he loved my voice. It can get raspy and sexy. He asked if I wanted to fill in on his radio show on occasion. Before I knew it, I was a morning show co-host on a rock station in Atlanta. I was voted sexiest voice by the readers of the AJC (the Atlanta newspaper) and I was doing a ton of voice over work for clients.
While I was doing radio, the local NBC station in Atlanta asked if I wanted to co-host a talk show. I did a lot of entertainment type stories and learned to have that "everything is right with the world" sound to my voice. The "it's always sunny even though the walls are crumbling on us" type of sound.
And to my friends, I have a dry humor- so I can definitely portray that dead pan humor or sarcasm.
I studied theatre at Northwestern University, so I could do a narration as well.
The only thing I couldn't do, is call the Kentucky Derby.. (hey, I am being honest).
My Training
I went to Northwestern University in Evanston, Il. where I studied theatre and Radio-tv-film.
But generally I learned by listening, studying, practicing and doing.
My Studio Equipment
I have a Mac and a snowball microphone.. that I can use with Garageband.
Additional Skills
I have a ton of experience writing and editing from my many years at CNN. I also wrote most of my radio spots when I did a radio show.
I am a perfectionist, so if you are not happy, I am not happy.
I will record a voice over until it is perfect. I will work until the job is finished, no matter what it takes... the client has to be happy.. or it is back the drawing board.
