Voice Description

My voice--how would I describe it? It is versatile, cheery, inflections when needed, can read cold copy, loves liner cards and weather sponsors, can be serious when copy calls for serious tone.

My voice can be young or mature, depending on what is needed, familar sounding and trustworthy as well as comfortable.

I can be professional as when I did commercials for M/I homes, serious when I did copy for 1-800 The Lost, and in February when I had to learn "Operation Winterwatch" in less than an hour, I had to be "newsy", concise, clear and thorough.

Having never done "Operation Winterwatch" before, I had a crash course in reading the copy and learning how to read the level of snowstorms and present it on the fly.

My Voice Experience

I have 12 years of disc jockeying and currently I am part- time at a radio station in Columbus, Ohio.

My air name is "Nikki Brooks" and I work for WSNY-FM, Sunny 95, where you can listen online. I work part time on the weeekends and have always loved production and commercials and have wanted to do voice overs for many years.

Prior to working at WSNY-FM I worked at an urban station for 4 and 1/2 years, WCKX-FM and was also put on another station of theirs on the weekends.

I taught myself how to do "The Grind" which was a sultry, 4 hour love song dedication show, playing current R and B songs with listeners calling in to do dedications and being a white woman at an urban radio station, I had to learn quickly the sound I needed to use that would be most fundamental for the ratings of the station. The station went to Number One in Arbitrons.

Then when I did production for Bobby Layman Chevrolet, M/I Homes, Hair Salons, State Farm, Planned Parenthood, First Fridays, I honed my voice and molded my voice to what was needed to sell the spots.

I have copies of all of the spots I have ever done. I can be very versatile and that is my greatest asset.

I have proved that in the past which proves my present value to voice overs.

I was lucky and fell into the business. I have worked very hard for 12 years and want to do voice over work. It is my dream.

Additional Skills

I am a perfectionist and will recut a spot until I feel it is perfect and worthy of putting out there. I would never cut a spot where my words were slurred or I sounded inaudible.

English and speaking clearly and intelligently are the most important thing to me as I have two children, one with Cerebral Palsy and I have had to work with him daily on his speech and he is well spoken also.

I value life as I am a breast cancer survivor and I would like to one day incorporate my experience into future endeavors.

I am one of the lucky that found mine so early that I can live a long, strong, healthy life and do my dream.

I wish to pursue it now and that is where the voice over work comes in.
