My Voice Experience
I have worked for the same phone-order / mail-order company for almost 27 years, providing tech support, sales and customer service in both in English and French.
Other than that, my total experience in using my voice is at the local coffee house we go to weekly.
I read poetry (Robert Service's "The Cremation of Dan McGee), prose (scared the bejeezus out of them reading Edgar Allan Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart" on Hallowe'en this year), and provide the voice for our resident ventriloquist/comedienne's dummy, her "granddaughter" Surprise. The ventriloquist/comedienne can't read her lines and work the dummy at the same time, so I sit on the floor at the front, unseen by most audience members, and do Surprise's voice. Hey, it works for us!
My Training
Although I have recorded the occasional voice mail greeting, I have not had occasion to do much of this. However, my company has trained me how to modulate my voice, how to speak clearly, and how to sound professional.
The gigs at the local coffee house have given me confidence in public speaking, and helped me to expand my vocal talents. Many people have suggested that I become a voice actor.
