Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects
Numerous cartoon characterizations, Don Pardo, British (many different dialects), Scottish, Australian, French, Russian, German, Italian, Spanish, Southern, New Yorker, Heavy Midwestern, Surfer dude, Nerd, Grandpa, Grandma, That kid you knew in school who had braces, talked through his teeth and usually ended up spraying everyone around him and many, many, more...
Even if I've never done the accent/dialect, I can usually pick it up or invent it fairly quickly. Same goes for characterizations. I can do all kinds of cartoon characters from all different eras.
My Voice Experience
Ever since I was a kid, I've been interested in voices, accents and dialects. I'd mimic everything I heard to the point of driving my parents and brother just a tad nuts. Cartoons, radio commercials and, even now, video games have always fascinated me with their characters. I pay attention to the little details in voices that most people completely miss. To me, finding the right voice for a character is one of the most important parts of any project. I'd like to think I have plenty of those voices in me.
My Training
+ I got into theatre late in high school, but parts of it have stuck with me, namely character creation and finding voices.
+ For the last 15 years I have worked in advertising as a writer. This experience has given me the opportunity to not only create and hone voices for the many clients I have worked with, but I've also been able to record my own voice for use in scratch tracks and demos. More than a few times, clients have heard my demos and picked my read as the final voice.
+ Radio is one of my favorite things to work on because it gives me the ability to create characters out of thin air and then give them a voice. Sometimes that voice has been mine, but more often, I usually cast someone else for the part. I've finally decided to put my character/voice talents to use and start marketing my own voice.
My Studio Equipment
At home, I use a MacBook Pro or iMac running GarageBand with a Blue Yeti or Snowball mic. On the go, I'll use my iPad, but only for demos and scratch tracks. I also have a couple recording studios close to work and home that I use frequently.
Additional Skills
Being a writer, I can always lend a hand and assist if words need to be rearranged on the fly in the studio.
