Voice Description

I am a retired teacher - middle and high school English. I used to enjoy reading poetry and passages of literature for the kids, and I even have some old tapes of them and me.

I began doing scripture readings for my church several years ago. The choir director, a professional singer/chorister with the Met came to me on my first reading and told me that I should get an audition for voice overs and/or dramatic readings. He has repeatedly said to me: Murph, have you done anything about it?

I am quite surprised by the feedback that I have received. Perfect strangers coming up to me and thanking me! (On countless occasions!) Most humbly, I am amazed and never cease to be surprised. The locals have been steadily generous with compliments.

In view of the fact that I am on pension now, I could really use a boost in my finances, and this might prove to be a blessing in disguise. (Especially since I am still paying off the note on a loan that I gave to a nephew for a restaurant that failed fifteen years ago.)

Though a native New Yorker, I do not sound like one --- but I can.

A bit of an Irish brogue ...
and some others which are not bad - but might require a coach. I have been told that my Spanish pronunciation is quite good --- but I never studied Spanish, just picked it up from speaking.

And when I run across people from Jamaica, I tell them that I can "speak" Jamaican, because I picked it up from my students in my last years of teaching.
