My Voice Experience
I am a new comer to the world of voice over actors, in this instance I'm pretty much an alien!. Having acted since primary school and Secondary school, either in school plays or goofing around in the classroom. My teachers began to notice I had a knack for impersonating voices or making up my own on the spot. As the years progressed my vocal range began to grow (Singing however, was not one of these talents, unless you want out of key singing, then in which case, I'm your man!). Feedback from family and friends was a good enough boost, but if I really wanted approval, I would have to try my voices out on an unsuspecting public. In the course of one night at a bar in Belfast, I pretended to be an Australian tourist, an American immigrant from Rhode Island, New Jersey. And to top it all off, I managed to convince a group of guys on a stag night, all of whom hailed from Newcastle-upon-tyne, that I was a 'Geordie!'. I have since used my vocal skills to record voice messages for family, friends and workmates. Now I want to put my vocal talents to good use!.
My Training
I undertook a cousre on film making at Film Base in Dublin from August 1997 until May 1998. The course itself was a nine month, intensive run through every aspect of the film industry, from scriptwriting to post production. The aim of the course was to have two seperate teams submit fifteen minute long scripts, two of which would be chosen and later adapted to film. I have since appeared as an extra in various t.v. shows and films. During the course of these productions, I recieved feedback from industry professionals on my scriptwriting, acting and vocal skills, the latter of which was given more emphasis, in which I was encouraged to put my vocal skills towards the medium of voice over work. A close friend of whom trained at Ulster Television, informed me on how the voice over industry worked, himself having recorded several practise voice overs as part of his training. And recently, during a 'Jam' session with my friend's band, we recorded our guitar session onto a portable studio. Later, we sat down to record my own voice over demo.
The demo is still being fine tuned and de-hissed and hopefully should be ready soon.
My Studio Equipment
I have access to a digital multi track porta studio with editing, special sound effects with MP3 and WAV capabilities.
I also use a Compaq Presario laptop computer with recording capabilities.
Additional Skills
Although relatively a novice to the voice over industry. I feel my experiences in film training and acting will be of great benefit. I am dedicated and hard working and give 110% to any project or challenge I am given. I have a professional, focused and tenacious attitude to my work in that I will not give up and will consistently try any means or method to see the project or task through to it's completion. In addition, I am able to think on my feet or improvise, creatively, when required.
In my spare time I also write short and novella length stories and scripts, many of which I am in the process of trying to develop into either short or feature length films and possibly even for television programmes. I now also work part time as a Freelance writer and I am prepared to copywrite for agencies or companies for either advertising purposes or general information suited to the project in hand. I am also currently filming an on going 'project' for a Friend's heavy metal band, soon to be uploaded onto Youtube!!!
