My Voice Experience
Inspired by a Peter and the Wolf reading back in high school. One of my teachers was a former radio voice who read the story over the high school band's rendition of the classic.
I got into announcing in high school, and then, combined with an initial broadcast journalism major in college and an eventual job as an English teacher (which I currently hold), I've done the following voice work:
Public Address system for basketball and football
Morning sports updates on student-aided public radio
Play-by-play for high school baseball on a local FM station
Broadcast news packages for the classroom
Character readings in the classroom from books such as Of Mice and Men, Animal Farm, The Giver, To Kill a Mockingbird, Lord of the Flies, Ender's Game.
My Training
Syracuse University's broadcast journalism program was a natural draw, and I worked hard there and at a local public radio station for two years before switching to magazine journalism and eventually becoming an English teacher. I routinely read with voices for my classes, sometimes using my guitar, and teach drama, which I used to do in high school. I have been using my voice, whether for PA, radio, book readings, music, or drama, since I was 13.

Additional Skills
With my job as an English teacher, I have a strong sense of character development, and feel strong about my ability to do character-based work. I must constantly juggle two to four characters by myself and make their voices distinctive to help those students who have trouble following along in the text.
