Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects
I have been a teacher for more than 34 years, and an amateur actor for even longer than that. I have played characters with British accents, Italian accents, Russian accents, French accents, Brooklyn accents, and others. I have a good ear for accents and can learn any accent that may be required.
My Voice Experience
During my teaching years I never failed to amuse my students and hold their attention by changing my voices and accents as often as I thought it helpful to do so.
As an actor, I played many leading roles, such as the King in "The King and I," the defense attorney (Clarence Darrow) in "Inherit the Wind," the Henry Fonda role (Juror number 8) in "Twelve Angry Men," Tevye in "Fiddler on the Roof," Sky Masterson in "Guys and Dolls," and many other prominent and varied roles. I played one of the gangsters in "Kiss Me Kate," in which I had to sound like a gangster and sing "Brush Up Your Shakespeare." I played the subservient "gofer" in "Born Yesterday." I have read plays aloud for library audiences.
As a New Yorker who loves to help tourists find their way, I have often been asked, "Do you do voice-overs?"
I played the bagpipes in the U.S. Army (Second Army Pipe and Drum Corps in Fort Meade, Maryland), and that wonderful experience certainly helped strengthen my voice.
My Training
I was a speech major at Brooklyn College and received a bachelor's degree there followed by a master's degree. I graduated with honors in the Department of Speech and Theatre.
As I said above, my work as a teacher and an actor over the years has given me abundant practice in using my voice.
My Studio Equipment
I do not possess my own studio equipment. I will have to learn about audio engineering.
Additional Skills
I have listed above whatever voice over skills I have acquired.
