My Voice Experience
I have been a freelance announcer and narrator since 1978. I served as lead anchorman for Howard 100 News at SIRIUS Satellite Radio, where I appeared daily on the Howard Stern Show, and regularly on Stern’s On-Demand television channel. I am a staff announcer and commercial/promo producer for WABC Radio, and an announcer for WBBR/Bloomberg Radio and the Bloomberg radio and television networks. I have been the announcer for Game Show Radio (formally on WEPN and WXRK, both in New York City). Plus I was a commercial announcer for 1050 ESPN Radio (WEPN), and a long-time newscaster for WCBS/FM, as well as a newscaster and editor for UPI Radio, and a newscaster for Air America Radio.
On television, I have long been the announcer for Time Warner Cable News/New York 1, the city's all-news cable channel. Other credits include feature announcing for NBC's Late Night with David Letterman, announcements for PBS, and for WNET/Channel 13 in New York City, where I also served as an on-camera pledge host. And I have been used as on- and off-camera talent by Cablevision, and by Time Inc./New Media, Exxon, JC Penney, WebMD, and other major corporations.
My corporate clients have included Allied Chemical, American Express, AT&T, Canon, Coopers & Lybrand, DuPont, Exxon, IBM, JC Penney, JVC, Metropolitan Life, Northrop-Grumman, Paramount Pictures, Texaco and Zenith.
I specialize in medical and pharmaceutical projects and have narrated for many major pharmaceutical clients, including Johnson & Johnson, G.D. Searle, Merck, Ortho and Pfizer. I was the principal announcer for WebMD's daily Internet CME broadcast, and provided similar services for the Medical News Network and the Physician's Radio Network. My narrating talents have been used extensively by Columbia University's College of Physicians & Surgeons.
Commercially, I have voiced countless television and radio commercials for numerous national clients, including Anheuser-Busch, Beck’s Beer, Bayer Aspirin, Canon Cameras, Chase Bank, Delta Airlines, DuPont, JVC, Panasonic and Zenith.
Additional clients have included the United Nations and the Hayden Planetarium in Manhattan, for which I narrated a sky show. And i have been a web cast moderator for the Discovery Channel, and my announcing services have been used by Madison Square Garden and the MSG Network.
I have almost 50 years of professional experience as a radio and television broadcaster in New York City. I have honed my voice-acting skills by studying stage and film acting and scene study with the Roger Hendricks Simon Studio in New York City, and by performing as an actor on stage and in film (but with no impressive credentials in those areas).
My acting demo can be viewed at:
On a more traditional level, I have taken courses toward my Master’s Degree in Anthropology at Hunter College in New York City, having earned a B.A. in Psychology and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Fordham University.
My Studio Equipment
My home studio is under construction and will be completed by the week of May 26, 2014, if not sooner. [In the meantime I have access to a radio production studio each weekday evening (New York Time) and on weekends.]
Home Studio Equipment will include:
ElectroVoice RE-20 Microphone
PreSonus Tube Pre V2
Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 USB Audio Interface
Recording Program: Pro Tools 11
Note: While I do not have a formal phone patch set up, producers can hear my performance as I record, and can give me comments and direction in real-time during each session.
For nearly 40 years (beginning in 1975), I have taught commercial voice-acting in New York City, making me one of the longest-running voice-over coaches in the city, and giving me a solid grounding in the techniques and principles of my craft.
I have also been am actor for many years, specializing in Off-Broadway dramatic readings of the short stories and poems of Edgar Allan Poe. I have performed Poe's works at numerous colleges and on radio. I have also appeared in radio dramas on National Public Radio (on the series: "Simon Studio Presents").
Additionally, I spent nearly 20 years as a stand-up comedian, working in clubs and other venues in the New York metropolitan area, including The Improv, Catch a Rising Star, The Comic Strip, Dangerfield’s, and the old Carnegie Recital Hall.
