Voice Description

Articulate and flowing. Can change for any genre. I have a naturally baritone voice. Did an audio english grammar book for South Korean Ministry of Education in 1983 in-studio. Have always done impressions and accents. Have lived all over USA and picked up on many accents. I am disgusted with some of the so-called celebrity voices I hear on the radio from time to time and think I could do it better. Enjoy comedy.

My Voice Experience

I have done impressions and voices all my life. When I lived in DC during the golden age of answering machines, I would do take after take of funny messages within the allotted matter of seconds the machine would allow to make it perfect. I would come home to 40 or 50 messages of people laughing and hanging up. I would tell a few friends and word of mouth would take over. One particular message led the caller to believe they had called a radio show with 2 characters, one of which was a psychologist who described a heinous condition and invited anyone suffering from it to call in. The host would then say "you're on the air" and the caller would get the beep. Hilarious!! It sounded so real that people would hang up, thinking they were on the air! While serving an LDS mission in Korea, I recorded, in studio, a Korean to English 13 chapter grammar book for use in the Duk Sung middle school. It would have been used in 1985. Found out later it was for the whole country!! Sounds like a lot, but South Korea is only 2/3 the size of Utah. 44 million people though! No wonder they want to come to America. As it is, missionaries perform an unpaid service, I could not receive remuneration for this recording, that anyone could know about. I made a backroom deal that didn't include my fellow missionaries. Although this was less than honorable, I DID do the work, but could not attach my name to the work for obvious reasons. I do not have the recording, but I do have the book and the play sheet we used for timing in the booth. I confessed to my misdeed at a later date and was booted from the church in part for earning money during my mission. I was 19-20 years old. Since then, I have been told countless times that I should be on the air. Just trying to break in. I really enjoy it.

My Training

Sing in a choir. Bass to tenor, depending on the day. Lots of public speaking. Annunciation Nazi. Been in plays as a young man. Speaking Korean and studying a lot of east coast mannerisms make me reach deep for gutteral utterances and tongue a lip movement to get it right. Was an editor for high school newspaper. Love to write and create. Lots of spontaneous ideas come to me. Formal education? No. Honorary degree from Inter State. Get it?

My Studio Equipment

none.

Additional Skills

The only thing I can think of is my early career with AT&T in the late 80's. I started in domestic customer service with people calling in from all over the eastern seaboard. This is where I learned a TON of accents that make for my best stories. I would have people screaming at me about their phone bills. I would ask them to hold to talk to my manager and come back as my own British manager, tell them the exact same thing and have them ask to apologize to the 1st me. It was then that I realized the power of voice vs face. Very powerful medium.
