Though I have no commercial voiceover recording experience, virtually all of my paid employment history has been in sales and has frequently involved preparing and making presentations to small groups of commercial and retail prospects for insulation and drywall products, autos and trucks, and financial services. Other public speaking I have done includes MC'ing a few award ceremonies, presenting the talent (an Elvis impersonator) at a VFW fundraiser, and serving as interpreter (Spanish to English) for preachers visiting our church.
I was a music major in college and accumulated 96 hours. I had a part-time job recording every recital and concert in which I was not performing. I learned to set up and take down the associated stands, Neumann mikes, cords and Ampex reel to reel equipment in the auditorium and recital halls. On the occasions when our church service was broadcast on tv or radio I assisted our principal technician with setups and checks on some of the broadcast equipment.
None at present.
I understand that in all verbal communication TONE is of far greater importance than words or body language. I'm certain that in voiceover work it must be paramount. I feel that I have a competent command, if not a mastery of the vocabulary of dynamic impressions that will resonate in a desired and predictable way with the listener. I believe it is possible to convey excitement, urgency, thoughtfulness, assurance, perhaps even belief verbally.
