My Voice Experience
Growing up I always wanted to be in radio. Every kid did at one time or another I would think. My brother and I had a RCA "shoe box" recorder, we were always doing the "News Cast" and playing DJ with our gigantic cabinet phonograph. We would que up the records and so on. Years later my Brother became a club owner with connections to radio. After hounding him about asking the station manager of 106.6 KTLS Regional Radio if they were needing help I got my nerve up and just walk in and ask. I was 38 years old, the dj on air at that time was also the production manager. after telling him my story and why I wanted to be in radio, and due to the fact he know my brother I became the stations first 38 year old part time intern. I helped with commercial spots, grave yard shifts, board ops, remotes, and co-hosting call in shows. After a year or so I worked my way up to a paid weekend staff, actually I was the whole staff. Through power outages and having to re boot the station , specialty shows, countdowns, air shifts, and local programming I did it all. My favorite time was the call in show "The Friday Night Cruise" sure it was kind of tongue and cheek but its were I learned to be myself and not to try to sound like someone or everyone else. We did live commercial spots, remotes, interviews and comedy. It was a great time in my life.
Things seem to hit you hard when your at what you think is your zenith of life. Having family problems I had to leave radio, It was 2006 and I was 40 years old. Still having a love for broadcasting I started a online radio station of my own "Spider Radio" which I still operate today.
