For as long as I can remember I have been told that I need to do something with my laugh. I have been commented more times and in more ways that I can remember about my laugh. Friends tell me they want to record it and play it and listen to it anytime they want. I have had an entire audience in a small movie theater laugh, because of me laughing. This happens to me frequently throughout my every day life. My customers love my laugh, my family calls me just to hear my laugh, strangers laugh and tell me they love my laugh.
So, here I am. I took the advice of many people over the years and this is my attempt to market my laugh. If other opportunities arise from this attempt, so be it.
I started by taking an evening class on Voice Overs, participated in a coaching demo to get an evaluation of my voice. I took the resources and evaluation and started registering at Voice Over sites to attempt marketing my laugh/voice.
So, here it is I begin, with no experience, just a hope, a prayer and my laugh!
One evening class through a Continuing Education Class, offered in my city.
I am without studio equipment.
I have the skill of empathy.
I am a Social Worker by degree and I possess empathy listening skills. In relation to voice overs, I can easily put myself in the shoes of the voice I am portraying.
As a Social Worker, when a client becomes irrational it is required that you have a calm and even tone.
When a client is offering you information that is against your values, you need to respond without judgement in your tone.
There are multiple situations that require you to genuinely respond to clients that have everything to do with your tone, attitude, and body language. It is something that is sensed from the client as either genuine or insincere. That makes or breaks the rapport and progress you will make with a client.
I believe these experiences and skills to be transferable skills for a Voice Over service.
