My Voice Experience
I first became involved in working in the field of "vocal emplyment" when I was 18 years old. I had no experience in radio broadcasting and had trouble finding someone to give me a chance. I'd applied at every "small town" radio station in my area and was turned down for lack of experience.
On the verge of giving up, I decided to apply with the number 1 rated radio station in our market, WHKW Radio, servicing Tuscaloosa, Alabama and surrouding areas. Mark Shands, prominant programmer from Miami, FL was the man in charge who stated he liked my attitude and would give me a try.
I began working part time that weekend and 2 weeks later became the overnight air talent. Three short months after that became the Evening Air Talent.
This opened the door to commercial production. My very first commercial was for Goody's Discount Stores. I had to "act" the part of a surfer and the Executives with Goody's apparantly felt I had nailed it. That first commercial was chosen as the regional spot to be ran in all the southern states.
Since then, I've acquired 15 quality years of experience in radio broadcasting and voice over work. I've worked for radio stations in Tuscaloosa, Alabama WHKW 98.1 FM Top 40 Pop
Columbus, Mississippi WMBC 103.1 Country
Bay Minette, Alabama WBCA News/Talk
and Mobile, Alabama 96.1 FM Young Country
I've done everything from your standard forceful car commercial to the soft voice needed for those Valentine specials. I've also had the experience of using my voice for narrativesin books on tape for childrens' books, and providing the voice for telephone greetings systems for call centers and telemarketing companies.
