My Voice Experience
My experience and nurturiing began in the Afro-American church of which I am a lifelong member in Washington, DC. I was always taught to be proud of who I was, and if given an opportunity, to speak up, clearly, using correct English coupled with the social graces instilled in me. I found that my self-esteem was compounded and I took advantage of many opportunities to be in programs, services, conferences, meetings that allowed me to use my God-given gift of speech.
I grew to love the Arts and drama or any venue that allowed me to enhance my skills and find my true voice. What an adventure it was to arrive at college and find there were more opportunities for me to hone my skills via the speech and drama activitlies throughout my four years. It even afforded me the one time opportunity to appear in a play in the Salisbury, NC Community Theater Players. My humble beginnings a the college drama club make-up artist catapulted in my becoming a star actress and receiving the Best Actress Award and Best All-Around Thespian Award my senior year.
My career in education as a teacher and administrator afforded me the opportunity to plan, present, facilitate numerous workshops, seminars, trainings at local and national levels. All this took place over 32 years while I still dreamed of one day having my voice heard around the world.
Two years after retiring in 1999, I entered the Columbia School of Broadcasting, Fairfax, VA. and pursued a curriculum in Radio Broadcasting receiving my dipolma in 2003. This not only gave me to credentials I was seeking but the confidence to now promote myself seriously as a professional speaker, voice over artist, narrator, commentator, emcee dramatic reader, keynote speaker, trainer, teacher, and consultant.
While I have yet to have a professional opportunity to do voice overs, I stand ready, eager and eager to show the world what I possess.
