Voice Description

I have a reasonably deep and rich sound honed over 45 years as a radio newscaster and as a radio and television reporter. I am told that my voice and diction possess warmth and clarity and I believe it lends itself best to narration, presentations and certain kinds of commercials.

My Voice Experience

My career began in 1959 in my hometown radio station in a small Manitoba town and over four and a half decades, I worked in every province and most major cities in Canada in radio and television news before joining CTV National News in 1977, first as a correspondent and later as producer of CTV News; producer and anchor of CTV Radio News (a syndicated service)and manager of various CTV News divisions. Finally, I took the position of Vice-President of News and Public Affairs at the CTV affiliate in Calgary, CFCN. I took early retirement in August of 200 because of my wife's failing health and we moved to Nova Scotia, which is her home. I now accept occasional assignments as a voice and presentation coach for radio and television on-air staff and reporters.

My Training

Radio and television newscasts are limited in length so it is imperative that listeners and viewers hear your message clearly. I made it my job to learn as much as I could about delivering an effective news story or newscast. I'm satisfied with my success in that field.

SoundForge recording software with a Shure professional microphone and a Eurorack mixer.

Additional Skills

I'm a very good editor .. I think I'm a good story teller. I prefer short, declarative sentences written in the present tense that allow for a powerful delivery and impact. That's also what I teach my clients.
